Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was filled with rest, laughter, connection – whatever you needed most to refuel.
Ours was low-key in the best way. Friday night we did absolutely nothing. (Aiming for at least 100 more chill nights at home!) Shia had his first soccer practice on Saturday morning, which was the highlight of E’s life. If you didn’t know, he played in college and professionally afterwards. Then, Saturday evening we went to our favorite Taiwanese restaurant with old friends — the kind who are easy to be with despite a toddler throwing food and drumming on the table with his chopsticks making coherent conversation next to impossible. Yesterday I had an impromptu coffee date with my L.A.-mom-bestie (She’s an answer to prayer, and I actually mean that literally. A story for another day.) and enjoyed the rest of my day writing, reading, and playing every kind of ball with my kid.
I feel thrilled about the months ahead. I’m not naive in thinking I can muster through each day achieving all of my goals while maintaining health and vibrant relationships with my family and friends. I am well aware there is no way to do it all* seamlessly, and that sacrifices will be required. Saying no to plans and even new creative ideas will be difficult, and necessary. Prioritizing people before productivity will hinder my work at times. But I don’t want to gain anything if it comes at the expense of my own soul or care for others.
*wife, mom, friend, create, workout, etc.— all while living at a pace that’s enjoyable and sustainable
I know hard things will happen, bad days are inevitable, and there will be setbacks I didn’t see coming. Still, I am optimistic because of the people I’m surrounded by and the assurance I have through faith. I’d love to know: What gives you hope and assurance that everything will be okay? Maybe even better than okay.
E and I recorded our first bonus episode for you!
We chatted about not majoring in minors & let you in on our finances a bit. It’s a 12-min conversation that’s sure to make you giggle and provide food for thought. :)
